WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — A 20-year-old man was charged with five felonies on Thursday in connection to a shooting that hospitalized one victim in West Jordan earlier this month.
According to court documents, Hidir Yousef Doka, 20, is facing one count of felony discharge of a firearm with bodily injury, a second-degree felony; and four counts of felony discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony.
Doka is also being investigated for attempted murder in connection to a shooting that injured two people, which took place right after the first shooting. However, no charges have been filed yet for the second incident.
On July 13, court documents say a “fight broke out during a party” at an apartment complex near 6800 South Redwood Road in West Jordan. Witnesses told police some partygoers punched Doka, knocking him to the ground, took his shoes, and broke his phone during the fight. Doka then left the party and allegedly told a witness that he was going to “get them.”
Doka returned to the party in a friend’s vehicle and allegedly shot out of the window toward the male who had broken his phone during the fight, according to witness statements.
A witness in the vehicle told police Doka yelled “I think I got him!” after he fired out of the car window. The victim received a gunshot wound to his thigh and was transported to the hospital.
An investigation is still ongoing into a separate incident that took place within 24 hours after the first shooting. The West Jordan Police Department is investigating Doka for attempted murder after officers “responded to the same location and recovered a total of 53 bullet casings on the ground.”
Investigators say two additional people were shot in the second shooting, including a female who was shot in the neck. They also say five vehicles and several occupied apartments were discovered with bullet holes.
A witness told authorities Doka had returned to the West Jordan apartment complex after the first shooting to “catch them,” and when he got back told the witness, “They all shot.”
Doka has not been charged in connection to the second shooting as it is still under investigation.
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
