JASPER COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — One person is dead following a crash in Jasper County over the weekend.
The crash happened at 5:45 p.m. Friday afternoon on Illinois Route 33 at County Road 1200. Officials with the Illinois State Police said a Dodge Avenger was traveling westbound when it tried to pass another westbound vehicle. Pulling into the eastbound lane, the Avenger hit an eastbound Mercedes-Benz van head-on.
The driver of the Avenger was pronounced dead on the scene. The two people who were inside the van were taken from the scene with injuries; one had to be airlifted.
Route 33 was shut down for over six hours as the Illinois State Police investigated the crash. The roadway reopened at 12:40 a.m.
