CHICAGO, Ill. (WCIA) — Last week, Governor JB Pritzker signed several bills into law, including legislation involving vehicle safety and medical care.
Some will go into effect immediately while others will not be actualized until January 1, 2025.
Legislation like House Bills 4255 and 5370 were put forth to improve safety around emergency scenes. HB4255 will soon allow tow trucks and other specified vehicles to use green oscillating flashing lights at the scene of a crash or disablement. HB5370 amends Illinois’ “Scott’s Law” by requiring drivers to slow down around such accidents. These will all go into effect at the top of 2025.
Another automotive-related bill that will be fulfilled on Jan. 1 is HB4589. For any vehicle that gets its catalytic converter removed, HB4589 requires recyclable metal dealers to keep records of the vehicle identification number.
Several other signed bills involve medical services. House Bill 4271 lowers the age of consent for voluntary blood donations to 17 years old. Through HB5047, APRNs and nurses who are waiting for their Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation license approval are allowed full authority to practice for six months. These bills will also be effective on Jan. 1.
One health-related bill that has gone into effect immediately is House Bill 4264. This aims to protect nonprofit organizations from civil actions when they receive menstrual products, “reasonably” inspect them, and determine they are usable.
