MOAB, Utah (ABC4) — A gas leak on Kane Creek Boulevard in Moab on Wednesday prompted a shelter-in-place warning for the immediate area from officials.
Moab City posted on social media Wednesday afternoon to advise residents of the leak, and said the shelter-in-place warning would be in effect until further notice.
“We have been informed about a possible gas leak on Kane Creek Boulevard,” the post originally said. “Please shelter in place. We will update with details as soon as possible.”
Officials shut off the gas just before 3:10 p.m., and the city said that, before the shelter-in-place was lifted, officials were waiting for the gas to disperse and for tests to be conducted.
The city later updated the post to say the leak was located near apartment buildings on Kane Creek Boulevard.
“Grand County Dispatch sent out a new alert annnouncing that the shelter in place only applies to the Kane Creek area,” an update around 3 p.m. said. “Everyone else can disregard.”
Officials did not initially provide information about what may have caused the gas leak or how long residents were expected to shelter in place.
