13 y/o girl dies after falling from golf cart in Roosevelt

ROOSEVELT, Utah (ABC4) — A 13-year-old girl died in Roosevelt after she fell off a golf cart on a city road earlier this month.

The girl was one of three teenagers riding on the golf cart near Golf Course Drive and Areva Road when the incident occurred on July 3. According to the Roosevelt City Police Department, the 12-year-old driver made a sharp turn, causing the 13-year-old to fall off the golf cart.

Police say the 13-year-old was taken to the Uintah Basin Medical Center and then to Primary Children’s Hospital where she later died due to the severity of her injuries.

Officials did not release the identity of the 13-year-old girl, however, they did say she was originally from Texas and had family ties in Roosevelt.

Roosevelt City Police Department said due to the incident, officers will be giving more attention to the unlicensed minors driving golf carts, ATVs, and motorcycles on city streets. Officers have been instructed to stop any children driving the motorized vehicles.

“Parents who allow their children to illegally operate motor vehicles may be cited and the vehicles may be impounded,” Roosevelt Police warned in a statement.
