AUSSIES READY TO RACE AT 2024 ICF JUNIOR AND U23 CANOE SPRINT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Australia Junior and U23 team have arrived in Bulgaria ahead of the 2024 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships, ready to don the green and gold and represent Australia on the world stage.

Made up of 21 of Australia’s best young athletes, the team have been training both at home and in Europe in preparation for the World Championships, which are set to take place in Plovdiv from Wednesday 17 July to Sunday 21 July.

Nineteen-year-old Jake Morris from New South Wales will compete at his second World Championships at the upcoming event and says the opportunity to represent Australia on the world stage means a lot to not just himself, but the whole team.

“It’s an honour to represent Australia at the World Championships, it’s not every day you get to represent your country,” said Morris.

“We’ve had such great coaches, including past Olympians Kenny Wallace and David Smith, helping us along the way, and it’s been so great to learn from the whole team.

“The boys and I are so excited to put what we’ve learned into practice – we can’t wait to represent our country,” he said.

Set to compete at her third World Championships is Caitlin Webber, who will be hoping for a podium finish after placing fourth in 2022 alongside her team in the U23 Women’s K4 500m final.

“It’s been great to be able to get in the K4 boat with the girls to get some solid training in and strive for the best possible outcome,” said Webber.

“The training camp has helped us strengthen our relationships as an Aussie crew leading up to competition.

“It has also just been great to surround myself with a solid squad to push myself on the water individually as well.

“Our aim is to race the best we can – we obviously want to get in the A final, but executing our races and being happy with how we’ve performed is the ultimate goal,” she said.
