Danville Fire Dept. battles two garage fires in 12 hours

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — No one is hurt after the Danville Fire Department responded to a pair of garage fires Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The first fire happened at 8:11 p.m. on Tuesday near Meadowlawn and Robinson Streets. Department officials said firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the attached garage of the home while the homeowners said no one was inside the house.

Firefighters immediately began extinguishing the fire while others searched the home just to be sure it was empty. Additional firefighters who arrived provided support by supplying water from a nearby hydrant and the fire was brought under control.

Firefighters spent about two hours at the scene to battle the flames and investigate the cause before leaving at 10:17 p.m. The fire was determined to have been an accident and caused almost $12,000 worth of damage to the structure. A further $6,250 in personal property was lost.

11 hours later, at 9:04 a.m. on Wednesday, another garage fire broke out in the area of Chandler and Clay Streets. Officials said a pile of construction material and debris was left unattended as it was being burned and it subsequently grew out of control. Just as firefighters arrived, the flames jumped to a detached garage. Another nearby garage was also in danger of catching fire.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and were off the scene by 10:15 a.m.
