Open house to be held for newest rehabbed home in Decatur

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The City of Decatur and the Central Illinois Land Bank Authority (CILBA) announced that they have completed renovations on their second Abandonment to Rehab Program home.

The program takes run-down, unoccupied homes and restores them through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The goal of the initiative is to revitalize the Decatur community and attract new residents. The program rehabilitated their first abandoned home in fall 2023, and sold it in April of this year.

Now, CILBA and the City have given another home a total makeover. The project involved installing a new roof, kitchen, bathroom, windows, air conditioning, furnace, water heater and more.

The new-and-improved home, located at 1652 North Edward Street, is now listed for sale. An open house will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The City said several other abandoned homes are also works-in-progress and they encourage help from qualified contractors. Click here to get involved.
