SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A $5.4 million street improvement project is coming to Springfield, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.
The project will begin on Friday and impact Sixth Street from Stanford Avenue to Ash Street. Goals include resurfacing, replacing pavement and traffic signals, and upgrading sidewalks. IDOT said construction is expected to wrap up in mid-December.
During this time, the area will be subject to lane closures and street parking, as well as access to businesses and driveways, will be limited. Both drivers and pedestrians should anticipate delays in their travel and use alternative routes.
As always, motorists should be alert to work zone signage, speed limits, and workers. Drivers should also put their mobile devices away.
