Tilton felon given jail time for sawed-off shotgun possession

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A Tilton man was sentenced to eight years in state prison for unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

On April 29, 2023, Tilton Police conducted a traffic stop on a car in which Dillon Cagle, then 27 years old, was a front-seat passenger. During the stop, officers noticed a loaded, sawed-off shotgun behind the driver’s seat.

In a subsequent police interview, Cagle confessed that the gun and its ammunition both belonged to him. He later pled guilty to the Class 2 felony in court.

The Tilton Police Department and the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group both worked together on the investigation.

“Felons who illegally possess guns put our community in serious danger,” State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said. “My office will continue to work with police to remove guns from the hands of felons and to obtain serious sentences for defendants who relentlessly disobey the law.”

Cagle, now 29, will spend the next eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.
