SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — An Ogden man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.
Jordan Alan Neves Brewer, 37, was sentenced to 120 months in prison, in addition to being sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release. Brewer was also ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution after he had admitted to possessing child pornography.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah, in Feb. 2024, Brewer admitted to possessing child pornography while he was on supervised release for a prior federal conviction.
Brewer’s prior federal conviction — which was from 2012 — was also for possessing child pornography. He had also been convicted by the state for possession of child pornography and was released from his state sentence in 2019.
Brewer completed sex offender treatment in 2021. In March 2023, a probation officer found “unapproved electronic devices” while searching Brewer’s home, according to the attorney’s office.
“A forensic search of Brewer’s laptop revealed child pornography involving prepubescent children,” the release said.
The United States Probation Office and the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office conducted a joint investigation on the case. Brewer’s sentence was imposed by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Clark Waddoups.
The attorney’s office said the case was part of the Department of Justice’s initiative called Project Safe Childhood, which was first started in 2006.
“Project Safe Childhood combines law enforcement efforts, community action, and public awareness,” the Department of Justice said. “The goal of Project Safe Childhood is to reduce the incidence of sexual exploitation of children.”
