WATCH: Fireworks at Layton park malfunction, fire toward small crowd

LAYTON, Utah (ABC4) — A fireworks malfunction in Layton fired into a small crowd of onlookers during a Pioneer Day celebration on Wednesday, July 24.

Layton Fire Battalion Chief Jason Cook told ABC4.com the incident happened around 10:30 p.m. at Andy Adams Park. A man was reportedly lighting off fireworks in the fireworks-designated area of the park when one of the fireworks malfunctioned.

Two people were reportedly injured though Cook said they were only minor blistering injuries. A Fire Marshal was on the scene doing a firework patrol and was able to treat the victims on-site. Neither victim was taken to the hospital.

Cook told ABC4.com that the man was setting off fireworks independently of the city or any group and no charges would be filed as everything was being conducted legally.
