A video has gone viral showing what a Saint Bernard puppy really thinks of the no sofa rule her owners have tried to assert, but needless to say, it hasn’t been going well so far.
And it looks like they are going to need a bigger couch.
The hilarious clip was shared on TikTok by user @saintbons, showing the owners trying and failing to get Bonnie the Saint Bernard off the sofa. They started by trying to entice her to move, but when that didn’t work, they resorted to physically heaving her large frame off. Unfortunately, that was unsuccessful too.
As hard as they try to maintain the “no sofa rule” in their home, Bonnie appears to have other ideas.
The clip, which was posted on TikTok on July 10, has gone viral with over 826,600 views and more than 32,200 likes so far. Social media users have been delighted by the pup’s determination to put her comfort first, no matter what the rules may be.
Standing up to 30 inches tall at the shoulder, and with males weighing up to 180 pounds according to the American Kennel Club (AKC), Saint Bernards undoubtedly have a very imposing stature. Given their size, those who are allowed on the furniture will likely need a whole sofa to themselves, especially if they want to stretch out.
Don’t let the enormous size put you off however, as the breed is incredibly kindhearted and docile around children.
While the AKC recommends early socialization and training classes for any breed, they note that it’s particularly important for large dogs such as Saint Bernards. Obedience training can teach them not to jump up on people, steal food from the table, or accidentally knock over small children. They are generally eager to please, so once they know what their owners expect of them, they will typically start responding to commands very quickly.
After several minutes of trying to get Bonnie off the sofa, she got up eventually—but very reluctantly. Rather than springing off the sofa, she merely slid off it and rolled onto the floor for some well-earned belly rubs.
She certainly had her owners in hysterics at the time, as they joked: “I won’t hurt my legs if I do it this way.”
Bonnie’s antics have delighted the internet, and with over 1,100 comments on the viral video so far, TikTok users have been lauding her sassy behavior.
One comment reads: “can see the obedience classes were a godsend.”
Another person wrote: “She’s like, why don’t you sit on the floor?”
“We gave up on that battle long time ago,” joked another TikTok user.
While another person offered an alternative solution: “You need to buy another couch.”
